The crew wants answers, so now they turn to their former crewmate.

Hallis walks over to the coffee maker, laughing to himself that after all these years, The “old fashioned” way of brewing coffee beans is still the best. After pouring himself, Magnus, and Lauren a mug, he settles into the high backed couch, moving not as nimbly as you recall, but more of with a steady surefootedness.

Hallis begins: “Before we start getting into who has questions for whom, Can someone explain two things..First:”

“Why did I age, but all of you look like when we first met?”

“And secondly,” Hallis takes a long draw of his coffee. “Why does the Doctor have a pistol trained on me??”

Comments

Lauren leans back against the wall, easing her pistol out of its holster. “I’ve been assuming we were in coldsleep for the better part of the last few years. As for the second question,” Lauren turns to Sarah. “I honestly have no idea.”

Lauren is ready to fire.

Enter: Hallis Mir

Magnus eases forward slightly, hand hovering near his Blade hilt, watching Lars for a cue.

He takes a sip of coffee.

Enter: Hallis Mir

“i for one dont know you, on the other hand i didnt know this bunch just a short while ago.”

Ravn takes a chair, still with the dog close by his side.

Enter: Hallis Mir

“As a fact, we don´t really know one another that well any of us. Hodges did in fact join us in a bar. But seriously Sarah. What´s up? I´m sure Fenris means no disrespect by leaving us on ice for a spell. Right Fenris?” Jason nurses a cup of coffee between his palms and waits for an explanation from both Sarah and Fenris.

Enter: Hallis Mir

Hallis/Fenris nods in Jason’s direction: “Jason, to assume disrespect would imply I had a choice in the first place.”
To everyone in the galley: Hal/Fen explains: “The only for myself that made any sense was I..we were captured by a retrieval team sent by my father and my father-in-law.”

“When I came to my senses, or out of what I guess was a dream state, I had a ring on my finger, and had been working happily for now what had become a regional megacorp for about a yea..”

He hears the click of the hammer being drawn back from Sarah’s gun.

I don’t want to hear about your story!! I want to know who did this, and how long have we been gone!”
“And Hallis..or Fenris..or whatever your real name is..I would strongly suggest the next words out of your mouth be truthful, and what I want to know.”

Enter: Hallis Mir

“Sarah,” everyone else hears. It takes a quarter-second before anyone else realizes that Lauren said it, as it far more gentle than anyone else has ever heard her speak. She stands up straight from the wall, and only the most alert person in the system could hear the nearly inaudible click as her pistol slides back into its holster. She slowly walks over to Sarah’s (probably shaking) hand, and places her hand directly on top of the pistol and pushes down gently but insistingly until it’s pointing at the floor. Very softly and calmly, she says, “We all need to know that, but shooting him won’t do us any good.”

Lauren is counting on the fact that Sarah has never actually shot anyone in her life to stop her from shooting Fenris – she doesn’t particularly care if she gets shot herself at the moment for a number of reasons – chief among those being that Sarah probably wouldn’t refuse to fix her up, though she might refuse Fenris.

Enter: Hallis Mir

[OOC: First of all, thanks for letting me back to play. I just finished reading all of the posts including the original material that I DMed and I have to say “Wow Marc! You did a tremendous job!” I have no intentions of taking this campaign back from you as you are doing an excellent job so with Marc’s permission, I am taking over SARAH (in addition to starting my own traveler and pathfinder campaigns again).]

Sarah, allows her hand to be pushed down and turns in quizzically towards Lauren. "Well what do you recommend we do to get to the truth? I’m sure that if I put a bullet in his leg we can get the truth particularly after I refuse to fix him up in sickbay until he talks” Her gaze turns back to Fenris.

Enter: Hallis Mir

Lauren asks one simple question. “When was the last time you shot somebody, Sarah? At all?”

Enter: Hallis Mir

“Could we just wait with the shooting until the man has had a chance to tell us anything. We are in no hurry are we?”

Ravn looks around him, waiting for any sort of confirmation.

Enter: Hallis Mir

Sarah turns towards Lauren, her eyes narrow ever so slightly and her eyes blaze with a mixture of intensity and surprise. She opens her mouth as if to speak, but quickly grits her teeth, causing the muscles in her neck to flex. Her trigger hand, however, remains amazingly steady— her hand is not shaking. “Fenris, do you believe in firsts?”

Enter: Hallis Mir

“If people are going to start shooting without a proper need for it then can i have my pistol back?”

Ravn with a tuch of irritation in his voice

Enter: Hallis Mir

Lauren doesn’t even look at Ravn. “No, you can’t.”

Enter: Hallis Mir

Magnus chuckles.

Enter: Hallis Mir

“well i guess i am still not to be trusted, this crew is bunch of paranoids.” Ravn smiles

Enter: Hallis Mir

“Well, our fates are intertwined none the less. Whomever is to blame. What´s our next destination Hallis? You got the cargo and the ship.” To Sarah, he says. “You can shoot him later – if he deserves it. Let us find out a little more about our situation.” Back to Hallis, “I only have a mixture of dream fragments to show for. I wonder where we got iced? When or where exactly did we part ways? Was it at the mining planet?”

Enter: Hallis Mir

Holstering the gun but clearly annoyed Sarah says, a bit exasperated, “OK, look, I want to get back to the Sword Worlds sub-sector. What is our plan to get back there and to fulfill our contract with Borderline? Anders Carasii [the business man that hired N.E.W. in the first place] doesn’t strike me as someone who will like the fact that we made off with Maverick.”

Enter: Hallis Mir

Fenris/Hallis, who never took his eyes off of Sarah, responds to her first by saying: “I believe in many things, Mz. Hodges, like having no choices in decisions, as I am sure you can wholly relate.” He leans in when he says that as to give her the impression that he knows more about her than she knows.

Turning towards Ravn, Hallis smiles: “Paranoid is such a ugly word, new guy..it is new guy, right? I don’t recall you before hand..anyway..I would call it cautiously aware, but I digress.”

To Jason: “Ah, I have missed that acerbic wit of yours, Jason. But I see you are back on topic. I don’t have any more answers for you. All I can guess is we were interdicted between where you all found me, and that planet where the Vargr problem was occurring.”

“As for time, not sure how badly your heads were messed with, but I was told I had been gone for 24 years, which, to put it mildly, kinda freaked me out.”

“But when I got to Aramis to serve my penance for running, I found out that only about a year had passed, give or take.”

“Now, about that cargo I was picking up, let me just say we want to get that off this ship a soon as we can, trust me on this!”

Enter: Hallis Mir

Sarah holds Fenris’ gaze for a good two to three seconds, trying her hardest to bore a hole through him. She is reading his face for any “tells” (as they say in poker) regarding his comments to her. Trying to change the subject yet keep Fenris on the hot seat, she says, in a demanding voice, “What type of cargo did you pick up? Oh God, please don’t tell me that you picked up cases of dogs!”

Enter: Hallis Mir

new guy?? ravn doesnt really like where all this is going.

Enter: Hallis Mir

When Hallis hears Sarah mention Anders he remarks: “Ah, yes..about that. The Borderline contract was picked up.”

Hallis walks back to the galley table, grabs his tablet, taps in a few entries, then says: “Jason, you should have received a contract from Mir Steel for the services of New E.R.A. Works.”

“Welcome back to the ranks of the employed. You’re now working for my Dad, which, by extension means I’m your new patron.”

Enter: Hallis Mir

“And where in all this does i fit in. if i do?”

Enter: Hallis Mir

Sarah, a little out of character turns to Conny and says, “That’s a good question Conny, perhaps if I shoot you in the leg instead of Fenris we might get some answers.” The tone in her voice lets you know that she is stressed and lashing out at anyone and everyone.

Realizing that she might have gone to far, Sarah smiles, unnaturally at first, but it turns into a something a little more believable and says to Conny, “Conny, I’m just kidding… perhaps you, since you are the only stranger her that wasn’t with us on the Autumn Gold, could fill us in on what you know…. what is this vessel? How long have you been on it? What is your role? Where are we and where are we going?” Sarah tilts her head the side, flashes an near irresistible smile.

Enter: Hallis Mir

Hallis sighs deeply and says: “Really, Sarah? we going back to the innocent role? Are you a looker? yes..but we’ve seen under the hood.”
Hallis stares back at her just as deep, keeping a soft, almost relaxing smile on his features.
“Okay, since everyone’s playing Dorange Standoff, Let me make a statement. I’ve seen all of your files, even yours, Lt. Ravn.”
“Although, I gotta say, Lars, yours was one heck of a read, no wonder my mom suggested your rank and title to the Emperor!”
“Magnus..magnus..magnus..you are an interesting cat, I’ll hand it to you!”
“But the prize..goes to our own Sarah Hodges..now, I’m not planning to rat anyone out, but all of us, you included Sarah, have a chance at a fresh start, and that’s all I’ll say for the moment.”
After that, Hallis whistles, which causes Leo to shuttle over to him, Hallis kneels down and looks as if the two of them are engaged in some type of deep conversation before Hallis stands back up.
“Okay, Leo’s staying. He likes your rubs, Nathaniel.”
“As for what this vessel is? she’s a type A3 far trader, she depends on speed as opposed to cargo, I’ll leave that for you all as to how you’ll sell that.”
“We’re in the Aramis system, bound for the planet of the same name.”

“Your first assignment? stop a potential trade war.”

Enter: Hallis Mir

Hallis snickers: “Oh, by the way, Sarah..Conny’s his old call sign. His actual name is Nathaniel Ravn, Imperial Navy Lieutenant.”

Enter: Hallis Mir

Lauren smiles very slightly at the compliment from Hallis.

Once he’s finished, however, maintaining the same expression, she calmly but quickly half-turns towards Hallis, draws her pistol from her holster, thumbs the panel above the grip, aims at the very center of Hallis’ forehead, and, before anyone else can make a move, she fires.

Attack roll 9 +5 skill +2 Dex -1 hastening = 15.

Still keeping the exact same expression on her face, Lauren calmly brings out a handkerchief and rubs some dust off the barrel of her pistol. Conversationally, she says, “That was my last blank. I suggest you start answering questions honestly. I’d rather not get blood all over this floor.”

She puts the handkerchief away, and her gun disappears from her hand. “First, why go through all this? Why not just ask me?”

Enter: Hallis Mir

Magnus takes in the action, then, after it’s over, he looks over at Lars and says, “Righteous. Hallis, I’m with her.”

After a moment he adds, “I think I trust Ravn, though. The cyber dog seems to like him. That’s usually a good sign.”

He chuckles again.

Enter: Hallis Mir

Hallis takes in a deep breath when he realizes Lars is performing a quick draw. He knows he’s no match for her, so he takes his fate in stride.
When he hears the click of the blank, he exhales, then speaks.
“Okay, let’s start from scratch, shall we?”
“First, I’m as much in the dark as all of you, recall the fact that I was in a tube, like the rest of you, not exactly retrieval team protocol.”
“Secondly, I am not part of the organization that put us in that situation, the files I mentioned? given to me by our mysterious benefactor.”
“Can anyone tell me if you all heard anything while you were there? that might at least get us started towards solving that mystery, if possible.”
“As for the here and now, we have a couple of problems, first. Sarah, your situation has been “resolved”, you can thank my dad for that, when you meet him."
“However, before it was resolved, there were cargo deals made. Those containers are part of that deal. Even I don’t know what’s actually in them, but I do have the access codes.”
“What’s in those containers needs to be ascertained, once that’s done, what you do with them, is your decision.”

Enter: Hallis Mir

“Like I said…before a gun was put to my head, and the trigger pulled, thank you for adding an extra grey hair, Lars..if you all want to work for Mir Steel Holdings, you’re free to do so, I’ll have a contract written up once we dock.”
“If you decided not to, Mir will pay for first class tickets to the destination of your choice.”
“If you choose to stay, the ship will be under contract to Mir, but you can pay towards owning the vessel, We’re pretty hands off, we’ve have a line of freighters on established runs, but now and then we need a fast courier to one of our mining moons or belts, or to deliver mail offsite.”
“But if you do, I’d like a ship’s roster, that way I can get started on getting you all some seed money for cargo purchase.”
“So, what do you think?”

Enter: Hallis Mir

“I think,” Lauren says, “if you’re telling the truth,” she leaves the threat unspoken behind her words, “that your family is involved with this business. I also think that the Fenris I thought I knew would have seen that too, and would have investigated.”

Enter: Hallis Mir

Hallis shoots back: “The Fenris you know thinks otherwise. Look, if there was something going on in my family regarding you, or any of you, who would’ve known? I was dust before my parents or my bride to be’s family even knew I was gone.”

“If I scored a ticket on a freighter, why punish the crew? besides, I was under an assumed name, no one knew my actual name, so I’m not aboard with the “nefarious corp angle.”

Enter: Hallis Mir

“Then how did they find you? Why were you and Centrax not with us when the ship exploded?”

Enter: Hallis Mir

Hallis for a moment looks crestfallen, then recovers. “My parents. At birth, certain noble houses are given special perks. In this case, I was DNA tagged, which upon retrospect, makes perfect sense, given my mother’s position.”

“So, I was allowed to roam free, as long I didn’t stray too far, but when the upcoming merger with our rival corporation was pushed up, my dad, against my mother’s wishes decided he did not want a prolonged debate with me as to why I wasn’t interested.”

“Now, I did do some looking into from both my families involvement, as well as the in-laws.”
“I’ll be getting the results back in a few days.”

Enter: Hallis Mir

Sarah takes a step back from Hallis, and puts a hand to her head, as if suddenly struck with a massive headache. With a deep sight, she slows runs her hand down her face to collect herself, and stands straight. “If we are going to work for Mir Steel Holdings, what exactly do they need us to do? Will our ownership stakes in NEW continue or do we need to redo that charter too? Do we have the ability to use the communications to send messages on this ship — I have to get an important message to …..errr…..well … I have pressing business that I need to take care of if we are not going to be in Regina subsector for many months.”

[previously I had laid out how communications work - electronic messages [like emails] carried by scout and trade ships through the systems- are you still following those communication limitations Marc?]

Enter: Hallis Mir

[OOC: I believe he is.]

Lauren speaks up. “I can pull some favors and get you a Scout courier, if you like. That will probably have to wait until we get onto the planet, though.” She takes a chair and sits down, leaning back. Hallis no doubt notices that this makes it far more difficult for her to draw her gun again – and this is probably as close to an apology as she’ll get. “In the meantime, why don’t you tell your story from the beginning, Hallis?”

Enter: Hallis Mir

[OOC I have always loved the classic Traveller principle of communication, that being: messages travel as fast as the fastest ship, and routing, so if I recall, both Regina and Aramis are on main x-boat lines, so Sarah could compose and get a message, and have it move fairly quickly]

Enter: Hallis Mir

Hallis responds to Sarah: “Your original contract and charter with Borderline continues, along with the ownership stakes [Montana, if you remember what those were, email them to me.].”
“Sure, the communications suite is all yours, you can probably send a tight bad message to the x-boat station right now, if you wish.”

Hallis then walks over the coffee pot, pours himself another mug, and sits opposite of Lauren. Staring her straight in the eye, he comments: “Sure, Lars. but exactly what are you defining as the beginning?”

“Oh, and I have one condition attached to that request. If I tell my story, then everyone tells theirs.” Still looking at Lars, “Military secrets excluded, of course. Once I get nods from everyone, then I’ll share.”

Enter: Hallis Mir

Lauren shrugs. “I haven’t hidden anything but. I meant since you met us the first time, though.”

Enter: Hallis Mir

Magnus nods at Hallis.

“I’m good with share and tell. There isn’t much interesting in my life though. Apart from you lot that is…” he laughs.

Enter: Hallis Mir

Sarah just listens for a bit, and then, slowly slips away and heads to the communications station.

Enter: Hallis Mir

Twenty minutes later Sarah returns, tilts her head slightly, smiles [if you don’t know what Sarah looks like, be sure to check out her picture under “characters”] and announces, “Well boys, whatda’ya say we find out what Mir Steel would like N.E.W to do for them?”

Turning to Fenris, tone that is simple, friendly and almost ‘southern bell’, “Sugar, can you ever forgive me for aiming my pea-shooter at you?”

Enter: Hallis Mir

Lauren has been keeping a surreptitious eye on Sarah this entire time – not because she doesn’t trust her (she doesn’t), but because she’s curious.

In between Sarah’s questions, Lauren speaks up. “I vote no, actually. It’s been twenty-four years since I set foot on a planet. I vote we take some shore leave, see what we can dig up, and then we’ll talk about what we want to do.”

Enter: Hallis Mir

“Well, it doesn’t really seem like 24 years, but you’ve got a point. I vote shore leave.” says Magnus.

Enter: Hallis Mir

[OOC: my bad, things at work got a tad hinky. I will post Hallis story tonight, then respond to the following posts in order.]

Enter: Hallis Mir

Ravn looks around him. “24 years, hell we dont even know if our family is still alive. For all i know i could be the head of the family now” tapping his fingers slowly in the table “and what part do i have in this plot. I am not even sure if i have a part. I dont know you and you dont know me. can i still stay and if so what position would i fill in this crew”

Enter: Hallis Mir

Lauren shrugs. “As far as I’m concerned, you can stay if you want to, Ravn.”

Enter: Hallis Mir

Magnus chuckles, “Of course you can stay! Someone has to walk the dog.”

Enter: Hallis Mir

Hallis sits down, and begins speaking: “I was born in the Mora Sector. Lunion, to be exact. My parents are originally from core, both of them holding high ranks in the nobility, and my Mother’s lineage goes back to to some of the original colony ships arriving from Terra.”

“My Father is an engineer, and dabbles a bit in the metallurgy side of things. Ge devised a melding technique using his formula that gives some steel the flexibility of mesh, along with the strength of steel, which is where our business mostly cut its teeth, that being with architects.”

“I have brothers. Two, to be exact, and 1 sister. One brother is in the family business like myself, My sister serves on the court of the sector duchy on Rhylanor, the other brother, the oldest, just lives a quiet life.”

“When I was of age, like my Father, I enlisted in the military, Army to be exact. As many of you know, the ‘Marches aren’t exactly what one would call “stable”. There are always hot spots popping up. Not long into my first term, a skirmish broke out near Quar."

Enter: Hallis Mir

Lauren nods, waiting for him to continue.

[OOC sorry for the lag..been much busier than expected, but here we go..]

Enter: Hallis Mir

“As you may or may not know, Quar is the only Imperium star system in the subsector, situated in Zhodani territory. It’s been the flash point of at least 4 wars in the frontier. The fracas I was involved in happened at the tail end of the conflict.”

“Our Infantry Battalion went up against a brigade of Zhodani and Vargr forces on Quar. The armistice had already been signed, but you know how slow information moves in the fog of war.”

“By the time our commanding forces got the orders to stand down, both sides were pretty well shredded, and I had taken a high velocity round in my right knee, which is why I have a bit of limp, even though the army paid for a full replacement.”

“That put me on the shelf for a spell, But I got a promotion to Lance Corporal out of it. That’s also where I picked up my “enhancement.”

“After I recovered, I was assigned to a fireteam. Our mission was to try to keep the Zhodani applying any military advantages in the region. our worse assignment was infiltrating a complex on Ninjar that was producing “dirty weapons” for the Vargr, and by association, the Zhodani."

“We rigged the complex to blow, but the alarm got out and we eneded up having a run and gun battle on our way to the extraction point. We just barely got out of range before the site turned into a piece of glass.”

“Everyone was screaming to high heaven about that, but the Imperium denied all involvement, the mission was sealed, I was promoted and moved on.”

“My next assignments are where my mother’s court influence helped out. I was still Infantry, but I was assigned to a military attache that was moving documents back and forth between the Zhodani consulate on Chronor and our HQ on Jewell.”

“Let’s just say I learned a few things, and received another commission.”

“When my tour ended, I reupped for another, but I was re-assigned to Rhylanor, along with my platoon. Seems like the local politicos had taken a shine to our motley group. We were assigned to once more infiltrate a society that was planning a creating a rebellion on the sector Capital. Bad business for all. Unfortunately, these folks were not the “peaceful protestors.”

Enter: Hallis Mir

Hallis continues…“I almost bought it a couple of times in that firefight, but out team, along with the local militia and police, managed to arrest most of the leadership, which effectively cut off the head of the rebellion.”

“My last re-enlistment was kind of a slap in the face. Seemed I had rubbed a few folks on Rhylanor the wrong way, with our team coming in and cleaning up a mess right under their noses, so some back room deals were made, and I was detached from my platoon, and reassigned to B-’effin E..Flammarion..part of a peacekeeping role.”

“I guess my mother and a few others made enough of a stink that before I was honorably discharged, I received my last promotion, to Captain.”

Enter: Hallis Mir

“Flammarion is where I ran, in a way. While I was on Rhylanor,my parents informed that an “arrangement” had been made for me. Seems dear old Dad wanted to partner up with an old rival/friend to bolster our company’s influence in the region."

“Problem: my father’s friend was old school hierachy. He wanted his daughter to be married to influence and power, and he was getting that in my family. Now, I knew his daughter since we were young, now, don’t get me wrong, Bis is a sweetheart..”

Hallis pauses, then breaks up into a laughing fit that lasts for more than a few minutes.

“I knew I could say that with a straight face!!”

“A more tempestuous shrew I’ve yet to find. Frankly, getting shot at was a better fate. My father knew this. He said I’d have to fall on the grenade, for the good of the family and the company.”

“I, took the cowards way out. Once I arrived on Flammarion, the first thing I did was work on getting a new ID. It cost me all of my available savings from the Army, but I had a excellent one made up, all I had to do was find someplace to hide out. MMS seemed like the perfect place.”

“Little did I realize just how corrupt ’ole Marvin and the boys were, until it was too late to get out of there on my own.”

“But then, the Autumn arrived, and the rest, as we say..is history.”

Enter: Hallis Mir

Sarah returned to be with the others following her time in the communication area. Listening to the story, you says at the end, "You did hold your own on 567-908 when we dealt with the thugs there. I can see why now. I am still shocked that his wife ended the problem for us. "

Enter: Hallis Mir

Lauren nods. “I can see why you would change your name now, and why you wouldn’t trust us.”

Enter: Hallis Mir

“Let me fill you in the best I can on what happened. When I shuffled off, I didn’t tell my parents. I figured I’d lay low for a bit, a year or two, actually, until saner heads prevailed.”

“What I didn’t count on was Bis being very good at what she does, mainly “procurement”. She managed to track down the freighter crew that I lifted with to Flammarion, and she sent an military extraction team to get me!"

“An extraction team!?! can you believe that? I still can’t!!”

“Now here’s where things get blurry. Supposedly the team was to inderdict the Autumn Gold, take me and Centrax off (I’ll let him tell you why), then go on their merry way, but someone beat them to the ‘Gold, we’ll call them “the shadows”.

“Cut to that…that..whatever it was we were on, or at lest I think we were on something..er..sorry..I just have a bit of trouble sometimes trying to recall…”

Hallis looks tired, and he’s starting to sweat from the strain of trying to remember.

Enter: Hallis Mir

Turning to Fenris, tone that is simple, friendly and almost ‘southern bell’, “Sugar, can you ever forgive me for aiming my pea-shooter at you?”

Fenris takes a moment, staring Sarah up and down before speaking: “Pfft. If I had a cred for every gun that’s been stuck in my face.”

“But as someone who’s worked with higher ups, the “Southen Belle” sthick will work on politcos, not an Army Captain with 20 years dealing with snow jobs and even more playing the political game."

“By the way, this should really put a smile on your mugs. I’ve heard you all talking about you’ve been out 24 years. Not so. You all went “missing” about a year and a half ago, so there you are!"

Enter: Hallis Mir

This last actually seems to surprise Lauren…which is fairly unusual by itself. “What’s the date then?”

Enter: Hallis Mir

Hallis turns to her: “It’s 280-1107.”

“What? We have been missing for over a year!? I thought you were just kidding!” Sarah barks. She is visibly upset.

Magnus looks around at the others then starts laughing so hard he falls down, clutching his sides. When he finally gets himself under control, he looks at the others, pulls out a small betting chit, and says, “I wonder if I won? This was for Slender Chance, a racing yacht in the Regina Ducal Orbital Regatta of 1106. Somebody get me a download of last year’s racing results! The odds were 126 to 1.”

To Sarah Hallis looks surprised: “Hmm. would’ve figured you’d be happier knowing you hadn’t been gone two decades, but then what do I know? especially about you?”

To Magnus, Hallis chuckles, then reaches for his data pad. “I’m leaving myself a note, ‘Mags. Once we dock, I’ll have that checked for you just remind me.”

When Lars makes her comment to her gun, the gun replies “There is now a 94.7% chance that a data slicer on the level of Jason or higher may have manipulated my data core without my safeguards informing me.”

“If this is the case, then the people involved have a large amount of resources and talent at their disposal, and should be treated accordingly.”

Enter: Hallis Mir

Lauren nods, and asks her gun one more question. “What are the chances that the same people would have been able to manipulate your ‘safe’ hard-wired base memory circuitry?”

Enter: Hallis Mir

The gun simply replies: “Any one, with enough time, talent and resources would be able to manipulate a hard wired base, therefore, it is possible I was compromised, but I do not believe so.”

Enter: Hallis Mir

“Why not?” Lauren asks.

Enter: Hallis Mir

Sarah stares hard at Hallis and says, “If two decades had past I suspect my issues might have resolved themselves but those that I cared about perhaps are now dead…..” There is a mixture of pain and sadness in her eyes. Turning to Lauren, she says, "How would we go about checking to see if the data core has been manipulated or sliced?

Enter: Hallis Mir

Hallis stares right back and replies: “You really need to brush up on your listening skills.”
“I mentioned earlier..oh, that’s right, you didn’t hear me because you had a gun trained on me!”
“So, I’ll say it again..your situation has been handled..well..let me correct myself..the situation has been transferred to Mir Steel, LLC, of which I am the senior representative in this sector.”

Enter: Hallis Mir

Sarah says, in an almost threatening tone, “How do you know what my situation is and transferred to Mir Steel? Are you going to blackmail me the same as Borderline Shipping LLC?”

Enter: Hallis Mir

Lauren doesn’t even look at Sarah as she replies for Hallis in a very bored tone, “His parents assembled a file on each of us after they ‘rescued’ us from the Iezu, and he’s seen them. That’s how he knows about your ‘situation’. As for the blackmail, I see no evidence yet that Mir Steel has done any such thing to Borderline. In fact,” and she turns to Hallis, “I suspect Hallis might be willing to resolve your ‘situation’ as a show of good faith.”

Enter: Hallis Mir

{Magnus waits for Hallis to answer.}

Hallis looks at Lauren: “Iezu?”, then he stares down Sarah, never raising his voice, but being very deliberate with each word: “Of course, I know about your situation. Although I did the assembling of data, along with my Mother, and presented it to my Father. he likes to know just who his son is interacting with, and what is the character of personnel he is recruiting.”

“And, so do I.”

“And, as you’ll find out when your message gets back, your situation has been resolved, courtesy of Mir Steel. You’re safe. Our family can be very persuasive, when needed. My father and I went to Regina, spoke with representatives regarding your situation, deals were made, and voila!”

Enter: Hallis Mir

Hallis pauses: “But then again, I didn’t even know you all were alive until..” then his eyes brighten; "Oh, I see! that’s why you call them the “Iezu”, Lars!" “Well, we don’t know much about them either, except they have major connections. I had some slicers do some digging on who they are, and what they were up to. Two weeks later, I get a cease and desist order from he Sector Duke’s office.”

“Whoever they are, they work deep in the shadows. They were the ones who passed along the sealed and unsealed files on all of you, including myself, of course.”

“But, that’s a mystery to be solved later. I still have an offer of employment on the table, if you’re interested.”

Enter: Hallis Mir

Sarah takes this all in. “When I was employed with the Baron, I only got a glimpse at how powerful Sector Duke’s can be…. I had no idea that you were that well connected. I guess,” she pauses, groping for the right phrase, “…well… if you really did clear up my problem…. well…. thank you.”

Enter: Hallis Mir

Hallis laughs: “Finally! The real Sarah Hodges appears from behind the clouds!”

“Lest we mix up our situations, your “problem” was taken care of by my Father and myself, how you all ended up here, that investigation was quashed by the Duke,, for now, anyway."

“We Mir’s always take care of family.” Hallis takes a look around the galley. “And you lot..are family.”

Hallis pauses for a moment. “Well, unless anyone else would like to yell, or threaten or draw weapons on me, I’d better check our progress, want to be sure a car is waiting for us when we dock..wouldn’t want to wait around on the surface..”

He then heads out towards the Bridge, pausing just to look over his shoulder at Sarah.

“And, you’re welcome.”

Enter: Hallis Mir

Lauren looks around at everyone else. “I still vote we get some shore leave before we decide on his offer. I’ve got some things I need to take care of, as do the rest of you, I’d bet.”

Enter: Hallis Mir

Magnus shrugs. “I could use some shore leave. Two years or twenty four, there’s still booze, women, and a good poker game out there somewhere, and I aim to find them all, in whatever order they find me…”

Enter: Hallis Mir

“shore leave sounds interesting.”

Enter: Hallis Mir

“Conny, since we haven’t met formally, at least not since I am now calm, I’m pleased to meet you,” Sarah extends a hand, tilts her head to one side and smiles. "Where are you from?

Enter: Hallis Mir

Ravn shakes her hand.

“I am Lt Nathaniel Ravn. ex navy. I spent most of my time on or around Aramis so this is more home than the estate my family has.”

Enter: Hallis Mir

All right, if there’s any personal dialogue, it can go here, unless there’s any specific actions to be taken, I will start working on getting the Maverick to Aramis, and shore leave for the party.

Enter: Hallis Mir

“Its a pleasure to meet someone from Aramis,” says Sarah, “while I met many a dignitary from around the Imperium while I was the steward to Regina Minster of Commerce, Quentin Wight, I don’t recall meeting anyone from Aramis.”

“Sorry about blowing up a few minutes ago…. its not everyday that you learn your whole life have changed,” she shakes her head, still in some state of disbelief.

“Perhaps you can educate me about the politics of Aramis subsector during our next jump,” Sarah adds as she tilts her head to the side and smiles.

Magnus watches Sarah work Ravn, and mutters under his breath, “Watch that one, Lieutenant…”

As Sarah seems to hear him and briefly glances his way, he stops muttering, blushes uncontrollably, and excuses himself from “present company”, citing a “need to work on the Astrogation plots.”

Enter: Hallis Mir

With a small smile, Lauren watches Sarah, and catches Magnus’ blushing. She leans back in her chair, enjoying the moment.

Enter: Hallis Mir

If Magnus comes onto the bridge, he’ll see Hallis sitting in the co-pilot seat, laughing as he finishes a dialogue:
“So she turn to him and says: “Excuse me, but I thought you said: duck!!”

As Magnus walks further in, he sees Leo, wearing his visors, having a 3-dee chess match with the _Mavericks_’s computer.

Hallis suddenly snaps his fingers shouting: “I totally forgot!!” He then jumps to the comm: “Mr. Ravn, Mr. Taverner, Ms. Makaan, please meet me in the cargo hold, ASAP.”
“Leo, you have the comm, hold present course. Maverick, notify Mr. Ravn and myself if any patrols close, especially inspection ones.”

Enter: Hallis Mir

Hallis turn to Magnus: “You’ll want to see this as well. c’moon!” He then pauses and goes back on comm: "Ms. Hodges, meet in the cargo hold as well, I may need your “special perspective”.

Enter: Hallis Mir

Ravn follows to the cargohold. the cargo would be fishy, i bet it is.

Enter: Hallis Mir

Sarah taps her comm, “on my way to the cargo bay.” She makes her way to the cargo hold.

Enter: Hallis Mir

Magnus sets the Nav and Sensor functions to Leo’s control and, rising, follows…

Enter: Hallis Mir

Lauren touches her comm. “On my way.” She carefully tucks the earplugs back into her ears, just in case, on her way down.

Enter: Hallis Mir

Meeting the crew in the cargo hold, Hallis pulls out his data pad, taps in a few numbers and letters, then walks up to the first container. Jason, Lars, Ravn all recognize it as the one he sprung the trap on his security team.

Hallis keys in a code, which releases the locks, and the container depressurizes with a loud hiss.

He quickly moves to the other two containers, checking the temperature on one before keying in its unlock codes, then unlocking the last one.

Hallis walks back to the first container.

“So, who wants a peek?”

Enter: Hallis Mir

Magnus says, “Stop playing with us, Hallis. Whatcha got?” as he moves up to look…

Enter: Hallis Mir

Hallis says: “That’s just it, I don’t know what’s in these containers.”

Hallis, along with Magnus swings open the door. You both feel a chill as very cold air pours out, and you see a floor to ceiling rack, lit with small LED lights along each row, three in all, with vials nestled into slots on each rack, at first glace, you can estimate about 400+ of these vials, in varying colors, but all in the same configuration.

Hallis, pulls the rack out for everyone to see. Anyone looking at him, sees he has lost at least two shades of color in his face.

He then runs over to the second container, ehxorting whoever is closest to assist him in opening it. Swinging the door on the container out, Hallis looks in, swears to himself, and pulls out (any former Army or Marines character roll 9+ against your intelligence), what looks to be limbs, smaller cases that he does not open, but all is labeled with the Imperium Starburst logo upon it.

“I don’t even want to look at the third one. With our luck, it’ll be containers of Vlo’thu blood!”
“That only carries life imprisonment in any Imperium controlled sectors.”

Enter: Hallis Mir

Lauren calmly suggests, “But you’re going to open it anyways.”

She suspects she’s calm only because she has no idea what’s going on…but she’s also found that others will often ask the questions that she needs answers to.

Enter: Hallis Mir

Hallis looks to Lauren: “Of course.” Keying in the code, the containers latches spring open. Getting a light, Hallis peers in.

Stepping in a bit further and rummaging around, Hallis then slides out a briefcase that comes to rest in front of Lauren. If she looks down, she can see tabbed and marked bags of capsules, tablets, each with long lines of identifier coding.

Hallis steps back out, frowning. “Combat drugs, unless I miss my guess. The nasty ones. Highky illegal, but worth a pretty penny on the black market.”
“Any ideas as to why they would saddle us with all..this?”

Enter: Hallis Mir

Lauren shakes her head. “I don’t have the slightest idea.”

Enter: Hallis Mir

Hallis shrugs.. "Well, that dosen’t matter right now. I can have customs delay in inspection, put us at the last of the queue, your jobs..are to either come up with any ideas about moving this “product”.

“Dumping it’s a no-go. Sensors all over system would record that. I’ll look for folks who might take it off our hands, but we’ll cover more ground if we all look.”

Enter: Hallis Mir

Magnus says, “I’ll find a good card game. Where there’s betting, there are people willing to take chances, and where there are people willing to take chances…” he glances ever so briefly at Sarah, then continues, “Anyone want to come with? Drinks are on me. If I win, that is, otherwise you’re on your own.” he chuckles.

Enter: Hallis Mir

Lauren shrugs. “I’ll check my contacts. You’d be surprised what black ops can get away with.” She pauses, then, “Of course, it could be that they’re waiting to see where these turn up so they can find us again, so let’s call it a last resort.”

Enter: Hallis Mir

Sarah, who was silently observing all this suddenly says, "I probably shouldn’t being saying this, as I am revealing some “inner works” of how Regina politics works, but many, many times we, and when I say “we” I mean the Sub-Sector Duke would often retain non-imperial ships to carry out all manner of missions that could not go through typical channels or with official imperial ships or personnel. Transporting contraband, including weapons, drugs and other alien artifacts were often sent through normal shipping channels, not to the knowledge of the captains of course, we used sealed units labeled as commercial and agricultural goods. This was typically called “ghost cargo”. I have no idea if that is what this is, but it wouldn’t surprise me. Oh, and I should warn you, that if this is ghost cargo, there will be a someone who is expecting it and will be very upset if it doesn’t arrive where it is supposed to. Those types also are sure to be familiar, if not experts, with the business end of their firearms."

Sarah tilts her head to side, smiles infectiously, and says to Hallis, “Are you familiar with the business end of your firearm ……. just in case this is ghost cargo?”

Enter: Hallis Mir

Hallis tilts his head is response to Sarah’s, smiles back just as brilliantly and says: “That’s it!! I totally forgot about GC! You, Hodges, are a life saver!”

Impulsively Hallis runs up to her and wraps her in a big hug, before releasing her and running towards the stairway leading to the ladder, shouting behind him:

“You all start making your plans for liberty. Unless you don’t wish it, I have lodging for you all, and it is not tied in to you accepting my offer. It’s mine, and my parents way of saying thanks for helping me with that MMS situation.”

Enter: Hallis Mir

Lauren smiles again. “And yet, at the same time, we’ve already had the ‘or worse’ part. Also, if this was regular ghost cargo, then why was he given the keys to the containers?”

“That is a good point Lauren,” Sarah acknowledges. She ponders further, “Makes me wonder what type of operation Mir Steel runs….”

Enter: Hallis Mir

“Yeah.” Lauren gets lost in thought and wanders off.

Presently, she ends up lying on the couch in the passenger lounge, hands folded on her stomach, staring at the ceiling, thinking.

Enter: Hallis Mir

Sarah also sits on a what would pass for a lounge chair in the passenger lounger, suddenly interested in a hot shower and a fresh change of clothes. She taps her comm unit, “Sarah to Hallis, does Mir Steel ships have refreshers [high-efficiency wash machines that use sonic waves to sterlize and clean clothes instead of water and soap] and hot showers? Also, when you have a momeny, I would like to talk privately with you about some of your comments earlier this afternoon.” Even though he isn’t there, she tilts her head to one side and smiles as she finishes her message.

Enter: Hallis Mir

A respectable length of time after Sarah makes her call, if she’s still sitting in the lounge with Lauren, Lauren sighs and says, “Sometimes I wish I could have been a normal spy.”

Enter: Hallis Mir

Hallis comms back to Sarah: “They do indeed. We’re not huge, but we just finished a refurbishing of most of the line. Maverick’s a different story, but she has freshers on board (for arguments sake we’ll convert some space on the layout into a small laundry room), and a head (shower).”

“As for privacy, pick a place. Let me know when you’re ready to talk.”

Enter: Hallis Mir

“Thank you,” Sarah says as she comms back to Hallis. Without thinking, she continues over the comm (for all to hear), "Hallis, when you said you dealt with my “problem”, which “problem were you referring too, the criminals that were blackmailing me or the medical facility that I escaped from?” The second she finished, she immediately realizes that she made a mistake over the open comm. Smacking herself on the forehead, she closes her eyes and shakes her head in disbelief at her mistake.

Enter: Hallis Mir

Magnus, who has reseated himself by now at the Astrogation station on the Bridge, sits up a little straighter on hearing the Comm chatter, causing Leo to take notice.

As Leo looks at Magnus, the distraction causes Leo to lose his Queen’s Bishop to Maverick’s computer. He growls lightly.

Enter: Hallis Mir

Lauren speaks up to Sarah from the couch (not using the comm). “I wouldn’t worry about it too much. We’ve got a pretty good group of guys here, and it was bound to come out eventually.”

Enter: Hallis Mir

Hallis, who was on the bridge, leaning up against the pilot’s station where Leo is currently sitting, listening on the comm to Sarah..

Magnus sees his eyes go big at Sarah’s admission over the comm, then he smiles, and tries to keep from laughing as he responds:

“Well, the criminals that were blackmailing you, but the other part is good to know. It explains a few things..”

“Hallis, out.”

Turning to Magnus, still smiling, “well..that was unexpected!”
“And Leo, don’t blame Magnus, you left your Queen wide open!”
Leo yips in reponse.
“yeah, yeah. Bridge Gambit aside, she’s still winning.”

“So, Mags, any thing to add about our medic’s declaration?”

Enter: Hallis Mir

Magnus shrugs, “Nah.”

“Nothing at all.” Then he looks over at Leo and says, “No harm, no foul, eh bud?”

Enter: Hallis Mir

After a respectable pause, Lauren adds, “If you want to talk about it, let me know. I can keep secrets, I just don’t like keeping my own.”

Enter: Hallis Mir

Sarah, looks defeated, yet suspects that Lauren is telling the truth. The weight has been a lot to carry. Perhaps it’s best if she does confide in Lauren. "I…..well….a few years ago…. I was accused of …….we were in love…… the knife…. I didn’t know that he had it……. I shouldn’t say at this point… I am just so …. embarrassed….,” she fights back tears.

Enter: Hallis Mir

In one smooth (but not hurried) movement, Lauren sits up on the couch and swings her legs over to the floor. “Sarah, I am a Scout, and I’ve worked in shadow operations for most of my life. There is really very little that I haven’t heard, seen, or done before. Besides,” she smiles blandly. “We’ve got all the time in the world, don’t we?”

Enter: Hallis Mir

Sarah removes her face from her hands and looks a Lauren. Seeing that Lauren is serious and seems genuine she says, “I do not have a desire to be a traveller, to fly in ships and galavant all around the universe. No, my desire was to have a career and family on Regina. My father was an Imperial politician as was his father. For his entire life he had dedicated himself to serving the people of Regina subsector. Throughout my childhood we were regularly being sent to this outpost or that colony or embassy. I experienced more space travel as a child than most adults will in a life time. Being moved around a lot prevented me from making long-lasting friendships. Its not like you can be pen pals with people on other worlds with ease. My father was extremely busy and had very little time for me. Since I was an only child, I spent most of my time with my mother. However, on a embassy visit to Yori, when I was 8, my mother caught Truggar Fevor from a contingent of Vargr envoys. She died within weeks leaving me alone in this universe with my father. My father was devastated by the loss of his wife as they were very close … which is another long story unto itself. He withdrew from me and becoming cold and distant. The more I needed him the less of himself he offered. Oh, I know that he loved me, but …. well we could have really used some counseling back then… that’s what my therapist said on ROUP.”

She takes a breath and continues, “I tell you that because it might explain why I am a traveller or at least how I ended up becoming a traveller. Fast forward to my university years… I was so alone in the universe and deep inside was looking for love… with my mother gone and my father distant there is, no, I mean was, a subconscious desire for me to put people in my life that filled, usually unnaturally those missing holes.. filling, or at least trying to fill the emptiness. As with any young adult, lust is often ignorantly interpreted as love as I certainly did.”

She looks at Lauren to gauge her reactions so far. "That happened to me, in a way that ultimately has pushed me to the stars. His name was Jim McNeilis. He was a young cadet in the Regina Naval Academy. At this point, I had finished my education at the Imperial University on Regina and, thanks to my father’s connections, was serving as Baron Quentin Wight’s steward with the idea that I would become an actual staffer. The Baron was the Regina Minister of Commerce and thus regularly meet with representatives from subsector corporations as well as the Imperial Navy to discuss the status of various systems and the safety, or lack thereof, trade routes. That is where my passion and training is but alas, I was only allowed to serve as a steward…. also another long story. Anyway, I met Jim during some social dinner party at the Baron’s residence and that “hopeless romantic” kicked in. Jim filled my ears with all manner of sweat talk, grandiose plans and visions of a future together. I, stupidly, was drawn to him … in a dangerous way. Based off of one night, the allure of the party and about 7 S’trevens spritzers I fell in love. I’m not talking puppy dog love… I mean the whole, ‘follow you to the ends of the universe love’."

Looking at the smirk on Lauren’s face, she continues, “Oh I now how foolish that is now, but at the time, I was blind. I was also blind to the fact that he didn’t actually care for me at all…. I was simply a prize to be won and then discarded. Long story short on that part, mostly because it hurts me to relive it, is this…. I pursued him, admittedly obsessively and he pushed me away. The more he pushed the more desperate I became. I ….. I….,” she slows her story realizing that she has come to the sensitive part. “I … this is so embarrassing, but I actually tapped his phones, used my friends and ‘spies’ and actually staked out his apartment and stalked him.” She blushes and pauses.

“He was furious with me and called the authorities. Can you imagine what my father said when he was informed that his daughter, the daughter to a subsector ambassador was stalking an Imperial Navy officer?!”

“He was furious with me….. as if we weren’t far enough apart. I knew I had to do something as my actions could destroy my father’s career… another long story. Anyway, I….. I guess stalked Jim one Saturday night. He had been at a party off the naval base on DownPort on Regina. He was very drunk and I was at the end of my wits about him. I was so obsessively in love that I thought, and looking back now I have beat myself up over this time and time again, that I should go to him and try to make him mine.”

“I waited until he was alone walking in the mist of the early morning hours. It was about 3am, cold, damp and dark. Not a person around, or so I thought, and I approached him on the dimly lit streets near his apartment. He was drunk, beyond anything I had ever seen and he was furious that I was following him. Not thinking clearly, I tried my best to plead with him for us to be a couple… I remember crying and so desperately wanting to hug him right there and have him whisper the soothing promises that he made at the party when we first met. He screamed at me.. which hurt even more and drove my desire to simply hug him. The emptiness of my dead mother and my distant father consumed me and I rushed forward trying desperately to hug him stupidly thinking that a hug could suddenly melt his heart and make him mine.”

Sarah stops, slowly lifting her moist eyes to Lauren searching for some manner of understanding, woman to woman. After a few seconds, she continues, voice very quiet, “In the darkness, I didn’t see that he had drawn his knife when I had started him, the knife was in his left hand which was at his side. When I rushed him to hug him, he instinctively lifted his arms to prevent me from hugging him. My attempt to hug him turned into a wrestling match…. him trying to push me away, and me trying my hardest to wrap my arms around him and bury my head in his chest, longing to be comforted. In the darkness, neither of saw the curb…..he tripped on the curb and we both fell to the ground, with me landing on top of him…..”

Sarah suddenly can’t hold back the tears and half-coughs half-cries, “The knife ……entered his stomach……he…..blood was everywhere…. he said ‘he…. hated…’” She shudders with tears as she tried to continue. “He… said he hated…. me.”

A few moments pass as Sarah tries to compose herself. "As if killing the one you love doesn’t destroy your life mine got worse. Unbeknownst to me, I was also being followed. Since my father had received the news from the authorities that I was stalking a naval officer, this made for excellent political ammunition against my father and one of his opponents had hired a, well they would call it a private detective, and I would call it a mafia thug, to follow me around looking for more “gems” of youth to be used against my father. I was so scared about what happened with Jim that I did not call the authorities and snuck off in the night alone. Yes, I know that was stupid but I was so scared and heartbroken… I wasn’t thinking clearly. But MY stalker evidently saw the entire thing and soon I was contacted by a mafia group that told me that if I didn’t cooperate with them they would reveal what I did to wreck my father’s fears. I thought that was crazy… why would my father’s career be threatened because of this accident.. he had nothing to do with it. And that is when I truly saw the underside of the dark belly of politics. They showed me evidence, doctored of course, that they were going to release that showed that my father was upset with Jim and had a motive to kill Jim as he had supposedly negatively impact a recent failed trade negotiation with another planet… all of that was nonsense, but the evidence had been fabricated marvelously and I knew it would be devastating to my father."

More in control of her emotions she continues, “I knew that I had to do what they said so I began leaking secrets from the Baron’s office to this mafia organization. Each time I told them I wouldn’t leak another thing they threatened to release these lies against my father.” This went on for about 4 months and I was nearing the point of insanity… I don’t mean that as a figure of speech either, and this is the real embarrassing part, I told my father that I was resigning from the Baron’s office, also a huge political liability for him, and heading to ROUP for some time alone. This was a horrible decision as the mafia told me that they were going to kill me AND wreck my father’s career…. they were upset that their leak was now going to be gone. My father was furious with me and I couldn’t tell him the truth of what I had done or what was happening to me with the blackmail. I was so alone…. I hurt so bad… so empty…… I took the…."

She is crying again, "I took the…. over 40 zandian pills…. yes, I know that just 10 could kill you…..he found me on the floor in the kitchen. In order to protect himself from any more embarrassment he sent me to a secluded, secret rehab hospital on ROUP. He sent me there since I had already told people I was going there it didn’t require a lot of explaining, he could simply say when asked, ’Where’s Sarah? WHy did she resign from the Baron’s office? Oh, she needed some vacation so she is relaxing on ROUP.’ I was doing anything by relaxing….. the rehab location he sent me to was basically an imperial prison where patients are treated, and experimented on, for all sorts of drug issues. It was simply awful. I don’t want to bore you, but basically, I was able to escape from there and headed to away from Regina. Using my steward training I signed on for some short jumps looking for more permanent work.. I couldn’t go back to Regina… my father’s career was in jeopardy while I am there. The mafia has threatened to kill me if I return as they are upset that their “leak” is now gone. My father will be so angry when he learns that I killed a man and fled his “rehab” hospital. I am simplifying all that is swirling in my head, but now you understand why and how I got to Flammarion and why I was so excited to be part of NEW…. to be part of a company where I control my own destiny and where I can be as far away from Regina as possible. So when Hallis says that he “cleared up my problems” I feel that I have simply replaced one blackmailer with another potential blackmailer."

She looks at Lauren, trying to read her reaction and says, “You said you are a scout and have seen everything…. have you seen this before?”

Enter: Hallis Mir

Lauren pauses a long moment before answering. “I’ve seen all the pieces before, but…not all of them together at once.” She pauses for a short moment, then adds with a grim smile, “Besides, at least this time the blackmail will only ruin you, not your father. And if Mir tries, they’ll find out just how bad an idea that is when I go after them.”

Enter: Hallis Mir

Sarah half laughs, have chokes on her tears, “I’ve seen you in action so I know what that threats means.” She reaches our, placing her hand on top of Lauren’s hand, “Thank you for listening. I am actually going to brief the rest of NEW so everyone knows who I am. Until it is all out in the open I won’t feel free of the burden.”

She stands, straightens her dark body suit, brushes back her hair with both hands, turns to Lauren and says, “I’m going to share my dark past with the boys and prove to them that a women’s heart is indeed a deep ocean of secrets.” She tilts her head to the side, smiles, and then suddenly spins and heads off to share her story with the rest.
